A BRACE from Jordan Laidler helped Sunderland’s second string record a 3-1 victory at Histon last night.

Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill was in attendance at the Blue Square North outfit’s Bridge Road ground to see Kevin Ball’s reserves notch a third successive pre-season win.

A youthful Sunderland side took the lead in the 10th minute when Craig Lynch robbed Histon defender Danny Fitzsimons and fed striker Laidler, who clinically finished.

The Black Cats quickly doubled their advantage after Adam Mitchell found Laidler on the edge of the area and he curled the ball into the top corner.

But Histon halved the deficit on the stroke of half-time when trialist Deakon Napier bundled the ball home from close range.

Sunderland restored their advantage eight minutes into the second half though when the impressive Billy Knott collected Mitchell’s back-heel and drove the ball into the bottom corner.

Ball’s men are next in action against Gateshead, at the International Stadium, on Friday (kick-off 7.30pm)
