RON Guthrie who joined Sunderland from Newcastle United yesterday as partner to David Young in a £35,000 package deal will make his debut in Sunderland’s colours at left back against Notts Country Reserves in a North Midlands League game at Roker Park tonight.

Team: Swinburne, Thompson, Guthrie; Dowd, Tones, Ashurst; Stronach, Chambers, Southwick, Hamilton, Kent. Substitute: Shannon.

With four postponed games to fit into their programme, Sunderland are having to look ahead and make provision arrangements which will suit them best.

Two outstanding home games are against Carlisle and Hudderfield Town who meet in the Cup on Saturday.

If Sunderland should miss out against Notts County, they have made provisional arrangements to meet the losers of the Carlisle v Huddersfield game at Roker Park on Saturday, February 4, providing Newcastle are not at home in the fourth round of the Cup on that date.

If they are, the re-arranged game would be switched to Friday February 3.

Sunderland youth team will be bidding for a place in the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup when they take on Hudderfield Town in a fourth round tie at Roker Park on Monday January 22. If a replay is necessary, this will take place at Hudderfield on Wednesday January 24.
