SUNDERLAND’S Christmas schedule sees them face Hull and Aston Villa – two teams in the bottom half of the table – and they both have to be seen as winnable fixtures.
Saying that, last season’s games against them made for miserable viewing for Sunderland fans; just one solitary point against Villa and nothing at all against Hull, who also knocked us out the FA Cup for good measure.
Steve Bruce proved to be Sunderland’s nemesis and no-one needs reminding how bad we were in the two Premier League games and cup tie we played against the Tigers last year.
Three games, three defeats and three men sent off says it all and we couldn’t even score a single goal against a team who did relatively well, but were by far a side to fear.
If anything, the cup exit was the hardest to take, where Gus Poyet’s team selection was heavily criticised as a huge away following saw their team crash out of the FA Cup with a woeful performance.
Sunderland have a lot to make up for from last season when they turn out against Hull on Boxing Day, where no doubt a huge holiday crowd will be expecting nothing less than a winning performance.
