After the Tottenham game, I’m not quite sure how to feel.
We have just suffered a third defeat in a row for the first time this season, but on the other hand we are still seventh in the table.
It always seems to be the same with Sunderland that they take with one hand and give with the other!
The worry is that we are in the middle of a really tough run of fixtures. We have got four games coming up that will define our season.
Once we get through Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City away and Liverpool at home, the fixture list looks a lot more favourable.
Psychologically a point against Spurs would have broken the losing habit. Football is all about habit forming and there is nothing worse than getting on a run of defeats, particularly when the next four are really daunting.
If we can stay in touch by getting a few points from the next four, then we can really have a good go over the last seven games against teams that are mostly in the bottom half of the table.
When you consider we were 13th last year, it is still a decent jump though.
You do get disappointed and a bit down when things aren’t going well. But we are still making real progress to be in seventh spot.
Teams struggle to jump up that many places in the Premier League nowadays.
