The Black Cats surrendered a second half lead at Highbury as they were forced to settle for a point, and fans have been quick to react to the result on social media.

Here’s what they’ve been saying after the club’s winless run in all competitions extended to five games:

@Ian_Crow3 said: “Didn't do near enough, but neither did they. When you want to push forward to win you bring Power and McFadzean on for two attacking outlets in Hume and Maguire. Poor decision making by Parky, and doesn't help any case for him to stay, that's if there is one”

@jim_b_kiernan added: “2 points lost on the road..”

@buntingfootball commented: “It's just getting sucked back into that drawing mentality that was installed under Jack Ross. That cost Sunderland far too many times and this period feels very similar to that. Just have to be killing teams off”

@afootyeducation tweeted: “The reluctance to play Diamond, Embleton, Neil or even McGeady is mind-boggling really. Going absolutely nowhere fast”

@irobarmstrong posted: “On the one hand we make every team we play look very average and not enough praise is been given for that. But on the other hand, we look really poor in attack.”

@waldron1994 added: “There's just no hope. Jerome was right. We are an average league one team”

@haymansafc said: “Is any fellow Sunderland supporter surprised we couldn't keep a lead? I'm not. Anyone surprised that we still cannot beat Fleetwood Town? I'm not… As always, we remain as predictable as ever and more points dropped.”

@Davyred74 tweeted: “Garbage. And what kind of manager swaps maguire for power, with Embleton sitting on the bench”

And former Black Cat and current Echo columnist Stephen Elliott said: “5 games without a win at this level for this football club is absolutely abysmal. Only one team trying to win that game tonight in the end and it wasn’t #safc. Game management needs looked at. Players on the bench that could make a difference but again we will never know”
