After a recent Premier League audit, the Black Cats have once again been awarded with Category One status, meaning their academy continues to be ranked among the best in the country.

And fans had plenty to say on the news, which was received fairly positively on social media:

@aspi80 said: “Just need to try and retain all the young talent now. If that’s the case there’s no reason why not invest the appropriate finances within the academy and build upon recent successes”

@rocketal added: “Of course they have retained category A, we continue to produce Premier League players, whether they play for us or not is neither here no there to the Premier League, in fact in our current position the fact these young lads move to PL clubs at 16 is probably a + for them.”

@jacka17 tweeted: “Can't harm the potential sale?”

@Bunney_91 commented: “Good to finally hear a bit of accountability regarding the U18’s & U21’s”

@GazJ20162017 posted: “FPP like this”

But @MattyCrichton argued: “Absolutely pointless having “Category One” status if both the U23 and U18 teams are left to rot losing every week. Not long ago our U23s played Porto in a European final, look at them now, the financial cuts are evident!”
