Sunderland have confirmed that they have retained Category One academy status – and fans have been quick to react to the significant update.

After a recent Premier League audit, the Black Cats have once again been awarded with Category One status, meaning their academy continues to be ranked among the best in the country.

And fans had plenty to say on the news, which was received fairly positively on social media:

@rocketal added: “Of course they have retained category A, we continue to produce Premier League players, whether they play for us or not is neither here no there to the Premier League, in fact in our current position the fact these young lads move to PL clubs at 16 is probably a + for them.”
