SUNDERLAND have named Kevin Ball as the club’s new reserve team coach after promoting the former Black Cats skipper from the youth team.
Club legend Ball has been appointed as Martin O’Neill’s senior development coach, with responsibility for both the second string and the under-21 squad.
The promotion-winning midfielder, who had a 10-game spell as Sunderland’s caretaker manager in 2006, will take up his new role immediately.
Ball’s new position follows the departure of former reserves boss Keith Bertschin, who left to join ex-Sunderland manager Steve Bruce at Hull City last weekend.
Former Darlington boss Craig Liddle, who arrived at the Stadium of Light last month as the club’s new youth-team coach, will now take charge of the under-18s.
