SUNDERLAND put in a desperately disappointing performance as they lost 2-0 at home to Everton in the FA Cup quarter-final replay.
The Black Cats were second best to the visitors throughout, Everton scoring a goal in each half to set up a Wembley semi-final against Liverpool.
Everton finally got the goal they deserved late in the first half when Nikita Jelavic turned the ball home at the near post after easily getting away from Sotirios Kyrgiakos.
The Greek defender was replaced early in the second half by David Vaughan, but it was to be a bad night for the substitute.
He gave away the ball cheaply to Marouane Fellaini in his own half, allowing the Belgian midfielder to set up Jelavic in front of goal. The stiker’s effort past Simon Mignolet was weak but Vaughan, after tracking back, got himself in a tangle as he tried to clear and turned the ball into his own net.
Jelavic missed a great chance to make it 3-0 soon after but in truth Sunderland never looked capable of getting back into the game.
