The Ipswich Town striker was shown a straight red card for his challenge on the Black Cats defender after just ten minutes of the League One clash.

Referee Charles Breakspear wasted little time in brandishing the card after a heavy tackle – and Goodman didn’t mince his words in his assessment of the incident on Sky Sports.

"There’s no doubt about the intensity of the challenge,” he said.

"It’s full-blooded. It breaks between the two of them – and no chance you can stay on the football pitch when you do that. Absolutely no chance.

"Reckless, poor. He’s been given an opportunity and he’s really let his side and manager down.

“It could be a long night now for Ipswich.”
