Ex-Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson opts against quick return to management at Bradford City

Parkinson, who was dismissed by the Black Cats at the end of November after a five-game winless run, spent three years at Valley Parade and is highly-regarded in West Yorkshire.

Much of that is due to the Bantams’ famous League Cup run, which saw them reach Wembley after beating Arsenal and Aston Villa – before Parkinson then masterminded an FA Cup triumph over Chelsea.

And after Bradford parted company with Stuart McCall over the weekend, Parkinson was instantly installed as one of the bookmakers’ favourites.

But the Telegraph and Argus claim that the 53-year-old has opted against making a quick return to management, and is not tempted by the job at the League Two side.

The Bantams’ chief executive, Ryan Sparks, says the club will take their time over the appointment.

"There is a timescale,” he said.

"We’re looking to make a swift appointment because of the position we’re in.

“But we won’t be making a rushed or panicked decision. Due diligence is something I’m keen to do and it will be deep.

“In the time I’ve been involved at this club, and in previous roles I’ve had elsewhere, I’ve seen many occurrences where managers have been lined up.

“Snap decisions have been made overnight – one out, one in.

“I can’t think of many, if any, times when it has had the long-term or even medium-term effect really.”

Sol Campbell and Jonathan Woodgate are among the current favourites.
