SUNDERLAND goalie Jordan Pickford’s European Under-19 Championship dreams were dashed last night, despite keeping a clean sheet in England’s win over Scotland.

A 3-0 success for Noel Blake’s side proved not to be enough for England to win the Elite Qualifying group in Belgium as Georgia beat the host nation 2-0 to top the section and clinch a place in the finals in Lithuania later this summer.

Pickford, sent off after just seven minutes of England’s opening draw with Georgia, returned after a one-game suspension to shut out the Scots, with Tottenham’s Shaquile Coulthirst, Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker and Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom sgrabbing the goals for England’s first win, following two 1-1 draws.

Newcastle’s Adam Campbell played the full match.
