Sunderland under-23 coach Elliot Dickman has been impressed by the impact of his two youth signings this summer.

Jack Bainbridge and Jordan Hunter have arrived at the Academy of Light this summer on free transfers from Swansea City and Liverpool in pre-season.

And despite being a little rough around the edges, Dickman can see a bright future both of the new recruits.

Speaking to safc.com, Dickman said: "Jack reads the game well, he is quite a strong defender and the fact he reads danger and uses the ball meant he stood out for us.

"There are plenty of areas he can improve on, of course there are, but the fact he reads the game well, has a good defensive mind makes him someone who we think can help the younger lads in our squad this season."

On former Melwood trainee Hunter, the coach added: "The main thing for Jordan is that he needs to settle into our way of doing things.

"We do things slightly different to what he is used to. We will be monitoring closely what he does as we lead up to the season and then moving forward we are excited to see how he progresses.

"There are bits of his game we like but we are here to help him improve so hopefully he will adapt to how we play and what we do."
