Echo Jury: Tom Usher reflects on the defeat at Old Trafford

Have your say

AFTER the performance on Saturday, the only thing to moan about was our luck.

To lose Wickham two minutes in with what looks like a bad injury was a real shame and a worry considering our options up front. Ji did very well replacing him and continues to impress when given a chance.

The second bit of bad luck was the own goal. Welbeck’s slight flick caught Wes Brown off guard’ leaving Westwood stranded. The penalty decision was extremely dubious at best, but once awarded, we were unlucky to have a linesman who actually bothered to make a decision. They never normally do. That’s the curse of Old Trafford.

It was no disgrace to go to United and lose 1-0 – we played very well. We weren’t particularly adventurous going forward but created a few half-chances for ourselves and United didn’t trouble us too much. No mean feat considering Welbeck, Nani, Hernandez and Rooney all played.

Keiren Westwood deserves a mention for a brilliant double save and I thought Kieran Richardson also played very well (shock, horror!).

We’ve got a nice run of games until Christmas and, with signs of improvement, there are definitely more reasons to be cheerful going into the international break.
