Echo Jury: Solid win for Sunderland and new faces impressed too

Have your say

THAT was a rather straightforward win for Sunderland. Carlisle never looked like getting anything in the second half, and it was there for Sunderland to win it, writes Matthew Foster.

Johnson had a decent game, and his free-kick was perfection. It’s nice to see us score a free-kick, as we usually can’t beat the wall!

I was really glad Watmore and Ba came off the bench and got a chance.

They’re two promising prospects and looked decent when on the field.

Ba took his chance well and Watmore came close himself. It certainly gives Poyet food for thought for the fourth round tie against either Kidderminster, or the familiar Peterborough.

However, the win didn’t disguise the under-performing players in our side.

If players were playing for their future, Gardner would certainly not be in it.

He made some poor passes and decisions in that game, and it throws into question whether his time in red and white is over.

After a disappointing attendance yesterday, I’m hoping there’s a huge crowd tomorrow.

We need to be in full voice for the lads, as we look to take a positive result to Old Trafford. Ha’way the Lads!
