Echo Jury: After the derby joy, it’s back to earth with a bump for Sunderland

Have your say

WHAT an absolute shambles! So much for building on last week’s result, writes Paul Welch.

If we can’t beat Hull City away then I’m afraid we are in deep’ deep trouble. It’s going to take a miracle for Sunderland to survive.

If I was Gus Poyet, I would fine Andrea Dossena two weeks’ wages for that tackle, it was absolutely disgraceful. Those sort of tackles end players’ careers.

Cattermole’s was late and deserved a red card as well, but there was no malice involved.

The second half was always going to be backs to the wall after two red cards, but, saying that, Johnson had a great chance to level it up but he squandered it.

I was actually quite pleased to see him dropped to the bench, because, for me, he is probably the biggest flop signing that Sunderland have ever made.

The ref got it wrong not to send Brady off – his challenge was as bad as Cattermole’s – but it wouldn’t have made much difference at that stage.

Let’s hope we can have some joy in the cup this week because I don’t hold out much hope for us against Manchester City on Sunday!
