A tour of Sunderland's facilities last week left Chris Maguire in no doubt about where he wanted to play his football next season.

The 29-year-old penned a two-year-deal on Monday to become the third signing of the Jack Ross era.

Maguire, formerly of Bury and Oxford United, cannot wait to get started as pre-season begins on Wednesday.

He told safc.com: "I heard a little bit a couple of weeks ago and from there it kind of just grew and there was a lot more interest. I came down last week to have a look at the place and as soon as I saw it I knew there was only one place I wanted to be.

"I met the manager when I was down, and was shown about the stadium and the facilities. I’ve played in this league a bit, I know what it’s about. A team as massive as Sunderland is shouldn’t be here but it’s up to myself and the other boys to get us out of it."

Maguire has also been impressed by the scale of Sunderland's support, with season card sales already passing last season's total.

The Scot hopes to bring some flair to the Black Cats side and build a rapport with supporters.

He said: "You just need to look at the support and the season tickets that’s been sold already, everyone is behind the club and it’s up to the players now to step up and take it forward.

"I’d like to bring a bit of flair, someone who plays for the jersey and the club, who interacts with the fans. I like to wind people up so hopefully they’ll be on my side with that, and bring goals and creativity to the team."
