62’ Lavelle heads wide

Sunderland may have dominated for large spells but this game is still in the balance.

Charlton went close there as Lee’s in-swinging free-kick was headed wide by Lavelle.

56’ Winchester shot saved

It’s been all Sunderland at the start of this second half.

Even Winchester is getting forward from the right-sided centre-back role, and has just fired a low effort into the grasp of MacGillivray.

Still goalless.

52’ Off the line!

That’s the closest Sunderland have come yet.

Pritchard did excellently to release Cirkin on the left and it looked like the latter’s low cross was heading in.

Gunyter managed to charge back to hock the ball off the line.

50’ Chance for Broadhead

The first chance of the half fell to Broadhead who cut inside on the left of the box but saw his effort blocked by Pearce.

Half-Time: Charlton 0 Sunderland 0

Sunderland were almost caught out there as a hopeful ball forward from Lavelle almost released Burstow before Winchester stepped across the striker to make a tackle.

Moments later Stockley headed a chance just wide for the hosts.

Elliot Lee goes into the book after a foul on Gooch when the Sunderland man was breaking forward from his own half.

It followed a rare Charlton attack when Purrington beat Gooch at the byline before Winchester stepped across to make an important tackle.

It’s been all Sunderland in this first half, yet it remains goalless.

Broadhead won a free-kick in a dangerous position after a foul by Dobson, before Pritchard’s effort was tipped over by MacGillivray.

The Charlton keeper then collected the ball from the following corner.

Another stoppage in play as Stewart receives treatment.

He’ll be able to continue.

25’ Another Stewart header

Sunderland’s wing-backs Gooch and Cirkin are taking up advanced positions and getting the better of their Charlton counterparts.

Another cross from Gooch was met by Stewart, who lept above Peace but headed wide from inside the penalty area.

Sunderland won another corner after Gooch’s cross from the right found Cirkin at the back post, forcing MacGillivray into a save.

From the following corner, Pritchard’s in-swinging cross found Stewart who had a free header but steered his effort wide.

Charlton defender Lavelle got away with one challenge on Pritchard near the hosts’ box and has now been booked for a foul near the halfway line.

The home fans felt Pritchard went down too easily and are now booing the Sunderland man.

12’ Stoppage in play

There’s a pause in play after Jaiyesimi went down after a tackle from Cirkin.

Sunderland have seen more of the ball so far, with Charlton looking to spring forward on the counter attack.

It’s been an encouraging start for the Black Cats.
