I am delighted to be writing a weekly column for The Roar!
I play in goal for SAFC Ladies and also for England U23. Last season I was part of the team that won FA Women’s Super League 2 and this March we will make the step-up to the top league in women’s football.
At Sunderland we are lucky enough to have the full support of SAFC. We train at the Academy of Light, as we are currently in pre-season for our next big adventure in the FA Women’s Super League!
Like most players I find pre-season to be a little bit like torture. I know people may think it is easier for athletes, but trust me eating healthily and hitting the gym is just as hard for me as it is for you! I did not eat one bad thing over Christmas, with the exception of my Christmas dinner – I am good but not an angel!
I get a lot of stick being a goalkeeper that I don’t have to run as much but this pre-season I have been running loads! I can’t say I have loved it but I loved getting better and seeing how I have improved over the weeks.
Despite all of the hard work we were unlucky to be knocked out of the FA Women’s Cup by Aston Villa Ladies. We didn’t play well but it still hurt. It is disappointing but we will go back to training and work on getting better. We still have a long time until our first game, away against Liverpool on March 25.
So if you need me before then, I will be in the gym running!
