Can Josh Scowen play for Sunderland against Tranmere Rovers? EFL transfer rules explained
Sunderland travel to Tranmere Rovers on Wednesday evening – and will be able to include new signing Josh Scowen in their match day squad.
The midfielder penned a permanent deal at the Stadium of Light on Monday evening, becoming Parkinson’s third signing of the winter window.
And talk quickly turned to whether the 26-year-old would be able to feature at Prenton Park.
EFL rules stipulate that all paperwork relating to a transfer must be submitted to and approved by the governing body by “12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match”
That means that Sunderland have until midday today [Tuesday] to secure any new signings - otherwise they won’t be able to feature until the trip to Portsmouth on Saturday, February 1.
Scowen’s deal was sealed well in advance of this deadline, meaning he can play against Tranmere Rovers if selected.
