Phil Parkinson’s side head to Fratton Park tomorrow, and will be able to call upon the services of Semenyo for the game.

That’s because while the EFL transfer deadline is at 11pm this evening, any new signings had to be registered long before that in order to play in the Sunderland’s next fixture.

For EFL rules stipulate that all paperwork relating to a transfer must be submitted to and approved by the governing body by “12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match”.

Semenyo’s addition came before the Noon deadline, even though it was announced at 9pm, meaning he is able to play in the fixture.

John’s move, however, was finalised after Noon and as such he won’t be able to take part at Fratton Park.
