SATURDAY’S visit of Garry Monk’s fifth-placed Swansea is the first of two back-to-back top-flight games at home for Sunderland, with Capital One Cup conquerors Stoke returning to Wearside in nine days.

And winger Will Buckley admits Sunderland need to register at least one victory from the brace of encounters after taking a modest four points from the opening five games.

To do that though, Sunderland will need to improve on performances which have not been dismal, but have not been enough for Poyet’s side to break their duck.

Former Brighton man Buckley added: “We need to get off the mark and that will give us the confidence to go on and play better than we have done this season.

“We need to take our chances when they come. We gave away poor goals on Tuesday too and those are the main things we need to start putting right.

“We definitely need a win from one of these two. We go into every game thinking we can win.

“But we need one, and hopefully two.”
