The 58-year-old left Hillsborough to join Sunderland's bitter rivals last month and while the Owls have seemingly gone from strength to strength, the early signs on Tyneside have provided cause for concern.

And it is fair to say the Owls' promising start hasn't gone unnoticed around St James' Park and some of Bruce's former clubs, with many supporters taking to social media to voice their witty opinions.

"The Bruce Effect"? - Here is just some of the reaction from Twitter:

@OB1theGeordie: To #swfc you’re welcome! From #nufc, good luck for the rest of the season and at least give us a wave in May when you’re passing #stevebruce
