Tests have confirmed that he will miss the majority of Sunderland’s run-in.
“It didn’t look good at the time and further tests have unfortunately confirmed that he will miss eight to 12 weeks,” Phil Parkinson said.
Johnson said: “There’s not much you can say other than [we’re] here for you mate. He’ll be gutted. He’s a strong character.”
