As reported by the Echo last week, Sunderland face competition from several Football League clubs to land the Bristol City striker on loan – with Doncaster Rovers favourites.

The 19-year-old netted six times during a loan spell at Newport County last term, but is yet to get off the mark at Bristol City.

The Robins are currently weighing up several bids for Semenyo, with the young forward set to head out on loan this month.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson told Bristol Live at the weekend: “I think we’ve got to assess all of those options, I think we’ve recalled Jojo Wollacott so I believe that’s happening therefore it gives us an option to go with a homegrown on the bench and bring out someone else.

“There’s been quite a few offers in for Semenyo and some of our players that have been in and around it and the fringe ones so yes, we’ve got to look at it but what’s important more than anything is that we stick to our task and earn the right to play and we just want a little bit more belief.”

On Semenyo, Phil Parkinson has previously told the Echo: “He is a player we have looked at and has pace and power. He is someone we have been monitoring.”

League Two sides Swindon Town and Newport County are also interested.
