Sunderland AFC legend Gary Bennett has supported those in need during the COVID-19 outbreak in a brilliant way.

The former Black Cats skipper is a long-standing supporter of the Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen, frequently lending a hand to help those in need.

And Bennett has stepped-up his efforts to support the charitable venture by providing a host of essential supplies to the soup kitchen during this difficult period.

In a post on their Facebook page, the soup kitchen hailed their ‘quiet hero’ for his sizeable donation – which included milk and clothes.

They posted: “May we thank Gary Bennett for bringing much needed milk supplies which were handed out to 13 families yesterday who were supported with food items by Sunderland Food Heroes in Silksworth.

“We are working together to ensure that supplies can be maintained for referred families and people in need.

“[Gary] Arrived with bags of clothes which we give out free of charge to homeless, families and individuals free of charge.

“Wonderful man supporting us regularly behind the scenes, doesn’t ask for publicity - but simply want him to know how much we appreciate his help.

Our quiet hero, always lifts people’s spirits and puts a smile on the faces he meets. Lovely man, thanks Gary.”
