FORMER Sunderland loanee Fabio Borini made only his second Premier League start of the season for Liverpool today.

Borini was handed a surprise place in the side by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers for his return to the Stadium of Light.

There were four changes in the line-up of his former club, with Wes Brown, Seb Larsson, Connor Wickham and Adam Johnson all included by Gus Poyet, with Sebastian Coates, Jack Rodwell, Steven Fletcher and Ricky Alvarez missing out.

Fletcher wasn’t even on the bench due to a groin injury, while Jozy Altidore - who has been heavily linked with a return to America’s MLS this week - missed out through illness.

SUNDERLAND: Pantilimon, Vergini, van Aanholt, O’Shea, Brown, Bridcutt, Larsson, Gomez, Johnson, Giaccherini, Wickham. Subs not used: Jones, Graham, Alvarez, Buckley, Mandron, Agnew, Mannone.

LIVERPOOL: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Sakho, Henderson, Moreno, Lucas, Gerrard, Markovic, Coutinho, Borini. Subs not used: Ward, Enrique, Lovren, Lambert, Manquillo, Balotelli, Rossiter.
