The new boss picked up his first win on Wearside with a 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic in midweek, but has altered his starting XI slightly for the Black Cats’ trip to face the Imps.

Charlie Wyke and Aiden McGeady return to the side, with Chris Maguire and Will Grigg dropping to the bench. Jack Diamond retains his place in the team to round out a front three.

Elsewhere, it’s an unchanged lineup from Johnson, with the Wearsiders likely to start out with a four at the back.

Here are some of the best reactions from supporters on social media:

@MattyCain2 tweeted: “That is beautiful”.

@Lewis_h__ tweeted: “Good to see a manager stick with players after they perform”.

@Leech27Tom tweeted: “Diamond starting, the lad will be buzzing. Harsh on Grigg maybe but happy with that! Ha’way the lads”.

@JoeHay_ tweeted: “Actually rewarding good performances?? Blimey.”

@GeorgeMJHorsley tweeted: “Took a new gaffer two games to realise some of the youth needs a chance. Totally justified the sacking of Parkinson with that selection alone. Regardless of the result.”

@RossCheal10 tweeted: “Yes Diamond, looks better every time you see him”.

@Phil_RJ89 tweeted: “I like the look of the team. Wyke is definitely our best striker (not that he’s got much competition), and the XI has a positive feel about it. I’d back us for a 2-2 draw today.”
