Will Buckley expects to leave Sunderland before the end of the transfer window, admits the winger's agent.

Buckley has failed to appear for Sunderland's first-team this season and saw an ill-feted loan spell at Championship Leeds cut short in November.

The 26-year-old - who cost Sunderland £2.5million 18 months ago - is one of several out-of-favour players that the club are hoping to move on this month, to reduce the drain on the wage bill.

And Buckley's agent, Clive Hart, is braced for the ex-Brighton man to find a new club before the window closes, with Birmingham City among those thought to be interested.

"It is very likely that he will leave Sunderland," said Buckley.

"At the moment, we are examining several offers and we will see what happens."

Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has been in England over the festive period looking at potential signings for Greek club AEK Athens.

That has raised the possibility of Poyet making a move for Buckley after working with him at Brighton and then bringing him to the Stadium of Light.

But Hart said: "To tell the truth, Buckley would not consider the prospect of playing in Greece.

"We're looking at teams in England and that is the most likely scenario."
