Marcos Angeleri’s agent is hoping to make progress in attempts to secure a return to Argentina for the flop Sunderland right-back.
Angeleri has endured a torrid two years at Sunderland after arriving in a £1.5million deal from Estudiantes in the summer of 2010, with the 29-year-old yet to make a Premier League start and plagued by persistent knee ligament problems.
The Argentine international is fit again now though, having returned to full training at the end of the season, and Sunderland are happy to let the defender return to his homeland.
It is understood that there is nothing imminent to resolve Angeleri’s misery, although the full-back’s agent, Miguel Pires, is hoping to change that next week in a meeting with Argentine outfit Independiente.
“Next week, I am going to have a meeting with the officials of Independiente for resolving the situation of Marcos Angeleri,” said Pires.
“He wants to return to Argentina and even more to a team like Independiente.”
