Alim Ozturk has described his two-year spell on Wearside as a ‘pleasure and honour’ after he was among five players to be released by Sunderland.

The 27-year-old ex-Hearts centre-back was signed by Jack Ross in the summer of 2018 and he is now looking for a new club after his spell on Wearside came to an end.

Sunderland are rebuilding again ahead of a third attempt at winning promotion from League One.

Posting on Instagram, Ozturk wrote: “I want to say thanks to everyone for their support the last 2 years and wish this beautiful club @sunderlandafcofficial all the best in the future.

Jack Baldwin, Duncan Watmore, Joel Lynch and Ethan Robson have also left.

Sunderland are hopeful of retaining the services of Jon McLaughlin, Chris Maguire and Tom Flanagan.
