The Black Cats were pegged back by a late Gillingham strike in a 2-2 draw in League One on Saturday afternoon – a result that left them sixth in the table.

Tonight’s match will see them bid for a place in the final four of the Football League Trophy, but they will have to beat a Dons side who took all three points when the two sides met in November.

Remi Matthews comes in between the sticks, with Luke O’Nien and Lyndon Gooch also returning to the side.

Notably, there will be a debut for Rangers loanee Jordan Jones, who joined the Black Cats in the latter stages of the transfer window. Fellow new boy Ross Stewart misses out through injury.

Top scorer Charlie Wyke drops to the bench, as does Aiden McGeady.
