The Uruguayan, who managed the Black Cats between 2013 and 2015, has previously said he’d be open to a return to Wearside one day.

Poyet led Sunderland to the 2014 League Cup final but was sacked just over a year later following a run of just one victory in 12 Premier League games.

After Poyet was inserted as the bookmakers’ early favourite to replace Phil Parkinson at the Stadium of Light, we asked supporters: ‘Would you like to see Gus Poyet back at Sunderland?’
