PLYMOUTH have signed free agent Nathan Thomas following a trial with the Sky Bet League Two club.

Winger Thomas, 19, a former Sunderland apprentice, has joined Argyle on a deal until the end of the season and will go straight into manager John Sheridan’s squad for the Boxing Day fixture away at Oxford.

“He’s very quick and very direct,” said Sheridan. “When he’s on his game, he gets the ball and will gain ground and get us up the pitch very quickly. That is what I am hoping for.

“He was very highly thought of at Sunderland; they offered him a contract and he refused it. It’s a good chance for him to come here and get some first-team football.
