Peterlee Sunday League: Price is right as HMS aces grab cup glory

They comprehensively beat South Hetton Cricket Club 3-0 in last Friday’s final, with two-goal man of the match Carl Price and Nathan Graham doing the damage.

Liam Houghton was South Hetton’s star man.

The HMS are also on course to win the First Division title and are still in the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup.

They boosted their title bid with a 3-1 defeat of fourth-top Hetton Social Club last weekend, thanks to Michael Stuart, Price and substitute Gary Spalding, with Nathan Fannan replying. Glen Howe stood out for Hetton, James Sanders for HMS.

Easington Welfare moved top with a 4-0 defeat of former leaders Easington Southside, when two-goal Josh Lincoln, Tom Laws and Michael Fortune struck.

Darren Major shone, with Mark Walker best for Southside.

The derby rivals are level on 30 points, with HMS Victory a point behind but with three games in hand.

Josh Dunning, Dan Gething and Shaun Bentley earned bottom side Horden Cricket Club three valuable points in their bid to avoid relegation when they beat FC Peterlee Moorcock 3-2.

All three Premier Division games were drawn.

Ten goals was shared when a brilliant hat-trick from Barry Frost helped Thornley Harrys Bar to a 5-5 draw against Seaham The George.

Gary O’Neill and Lee Westgarth also notched, with Darren Ruddock (2), Jordan Bunts, Marc Roddick and Adam Wallace responding.

Easington CIU and Hetton The Tuns finished at 2-2. Gary Mc Andrew and sub Craig Robinson netted for CIU, but Tuns had Steven Ashman and Ben Gritten on target. Chris Bond starred for Hetton, Dan Sanders for CIU.

John Purvis notched for Easington Lane WMC in a 1-1 draw against Shotton Comrades, with Scott Danks replying. Elliott Woods and Adam Brown were the respective star men.

In the Second Division, Murton New Hesledon enhanced their promotion surge with a 5-3 defeat of morning leaders Seaham Marlborough.

Stephen Goddard, Kristopher Howe, Liam Appleby, Kevin Alderson and sub Ian Craggs did the damage, with Chris Dormand, Adam Hepple and Connor Patterson replying.

Marlborough, in second, and third-top Hesledon are level on 38 points, one behind new front-runners NSCC, who hammered Peterlee Central Club 7-1.

Sub Dean Andrews’ treble was backed by Ryan Chambers, Dan Gibson, Jonathan Roberts and Anthony Watson, with Anthony Cairns responding.

Dave Kember’s brace was not enough for Peterlee Hearts, who lost 3-2 to neighbours Acre Rigg SC. Chris Collings (2) and Scott Jackson inspired Rigg, whose star man was Michael Laverick.

Anthony Hall stood out for Hearts.

Wingate Plough Inn are also in the promotion mix after two goals apiece from Dave Cummings and Jake Devine saw off New Seaham Mallard 6-1.

Joe Coulson and Jack Hart also netted, with star man Alex Hutchinson replying.

Peterlee Catholic Club reached the First Division Cup final by beating promotion contenders Shotton Builders Warehouse 3-1.

Rory Armstrong replied to strikes from Shane O’Brien, Jamie Gray and Ryan Brymer, with the final coming up against Easington Welfare on Friday, April 15 at Shotton.

Adam Cockroft shone for Warehouse, with fellow keeper Gavin Martin outstanding for Catholic.

Horden CW Supporters Club edged out Peterlee Helford United on penalties to march into the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup semi-finals, following a 4-4 extra-time draw.

Man of the match John Williams (2), Scott Davidson and Rob Taylor struck for Supporters, with Dane Wilson (2), Richard Graham and Gary Shaw levelling it up.

Jonathan Payne starred for Helford.
