Peterlee Sunday League: Dawdon spot on for cup final glory and Premier Division title party

The Green Drive side were taken to a penalty shoot-out before competing the second leg of the treble, beating Horden CW Supporters 4-2 on penalties, following a 1-1 extra time draw in the final of the Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup.

With five minutes of extra time remaining, Kyle Bell gave Dawdon the lead only for Jonathan Monaghan to level in the dying minutes.

Dawdon then clinched the Premier title when Kyle Bell notched a hat-trick, supported by two-goal Wes Smith and an effort from Marc Taylor, as they hammered Easington Lane WMC 6-0

The crushing defeat also sent Lane down.

The runners-up spot now looks like going to Peterlee Helford United, after their emphatic 7-0 win over Easington CIU. Gary Shaw (3), David Laight (2), Richard Graham and Daryl Evans notched.

Horden CW Supporters were held to 0-0 by Hetton The Tuns and then, in midweek, lost 2-0 to Helford, with David Laight and Shaun Ross netting.

Murton Park View have had a great season and two goals from Martyn Blenkinsopp, plus efforts from Ryan Pinder, Stephen Turner and Anthony Cook, secured a 5-0 win over Thornley Harrys Bar, who must now win their final two matches to stand a chance of avoiding relegation.

Brett Carr netted for Shotton Comrades in a 1-1 draw against Seaham The George, who are scrapping with Harrys Bar to beat the drop. Michael Wilson struck for George, with John Hobkirk star man. Lee Smith stood out for Comrades.

Four clubs are still fighting to land the two promotion places in the First Division.

Leaders Easington Welfare lost a pulsating thriller 5-4 to Peterlee Catholic Club, who are up to third place.

David Paul is now close to 20 league goals, having only signed in March, after he grabbed a brilliant hat-trick to steer Catholic Club home, backed by Scott Brown and sub Luke Wallace.

Easington HMS Victory are four points behind the Welfare in fourth position but have four games in hand. Their latest win came against relegated Horden Cricket Club, winning 1-0 with a Dale Harker strike. In midweek, Thomas Bott’s hat-trick and a strike from Nathan Graham saw off South Hetton Cricket Club 4-1.

Goals from Craig Woodward and Dave Wilcox gave Shotton Builders Warehouse a hard-earned 2-1 win against Hetton Social, with Rory Armstrong starring.

Wingate Grange enjoyed a 9-2 romp over FC Peterlee Moorcock, who are in big relegation danger. Michael Lee was on target four times for Grange, with Jonathan Lee, Anthony Harrison, Martin Basley, Nathan Kidman and Aaron King also netting.

In the Second Division, NSCC are up, leaving Wingate Plough Inn and Seaham Marlborough to fight for the remaining promotion spot. Plough are two points better off, with both sides having one games to play.

NSCC revelled in a Dean Andrews hat-trick as they cruised home 8-1 at Hetton Fox and Hounds. Michael Kennedy (2), Jonathan Roberts and Anthony Watson (2) also netted, with Scott Taylor replying.

Marlborough outgunned Peterlee Oaklands 6-2, inspired by Ryan Martin’s five-goal salvo. Connor Patterson also notched, with Liam Owen and Karl Arkwright responding. Andy Johnston shone for Marlborough.

Acre Rigg SC secured an emphatic 9-2 win against Haswell Oddfellows Arms, with a hat-trick from sub Craig Tweddle backed by Chris Collings, Graham Coxon, Daniel Hall, Scott Jackson, Michael Laverick and Matty Pattinson. Arthur Dolan and Gareth Milburn replied. Michael Bayles fired home a hat-trick for Peterlee Central as they beat Peterlee Hearts 5-3, with Richard Sergeant and Ashley Wilkinson also on target.
