Peterlee Sunday League: Anthony cooks up a final dream for New Hesledon

New Hesledon won a nine-goal thriller 6-3 against Peterlee Oaklands in their semi-final tie, thanks to a four-timer from Anthony Cook plus further goals from Ian Craggs and Dave Parry.

Martin Mason, Liam McGinty and sub Phil Robinson netted in vain for Oaklands.

Adam Hepple’s hat-trick, along with Chris Dormand’s brace and a strike from Kyle Milner, paved the way for Marlborough to reach the final as they pipped derby rivals NSCC 6-4. Lee Chapman (2), Dan Gibson and Martin Hall replied for the New Seaham side.

Horden CW Supporters Club were extended into extra time in their Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup third round tie against First Division Peterlee Catholic Club before winning 3-0 thanks to Robert Taylor (2) and sub James Connor.

Easington Lane WMC reached the semi-final of the same competition when they comfortably defeated Peterlee Hearts 7-3, led by a hat-trick from their leading scorer, John Purvis. Stephen Francis (2), Elliott Woods and Kevin Wear also weighed in.

Peterlee Helford United did well to reach the last eight of the Durham County Sunday Cup, but, in their delayed quarter-final against Stockton Hardwick, one of the favourites for the competition, they were second best before going down 4-0 to a strong side.

In the First Division, Easington Southside bounced back to winning ways when they beat relegation-threatened Horden Cricket Club 4-2.

Matt Billyard, Ken Pounder, Darren Massem and sub Michael Walker did the damage, with Shaun Bentley and Liam Rousse replying.

Thanks to a five-goal blitz from Carl Price, a brace from Thomas Bott and strikes from Dale Harker and Jack Garside, Easington HMS Victory ruthlessly hammered Wingate Grange 9-1, with Simon Hall notching a consolation goal for Grange.

Goals from Paul Wilkinson and Adam Croft enabled Trimdon Colliery Royal Albion to beat Hetton Social 2-1, with Nathan Fannan responding, while South Hetton Cricket and Easington Welfare finished all square at 2-2. Graham Hall and Liam Houghton struck for the cricketers, with Josh Lincoln and Nathan Burton replying.

In Division Two, goals from Carl Stephenson and Scott French were not enough for Haswell Oddfellows Arms, who went down 6-2 to Hetton Fox and Hounds, who revelled in a Daniel Robson hat-trick.

Michael Brunning (2) and star man Matthew Price also struck.

Acre Rigg Social remain in mid-table after goals from Graeme Coxon, Mick Laverick, Scott Jackson and Chris Collings helped them to a comfortable 4-1 win over New Seaham Mallard, who had Ethan McGhin on target.

Wingate Plough Inn also enjoyed a comfortable win, with Dave Cummings, Dan Gorton, Dean Fox, Hayden Pace and subs Jake Devine and Nathan Grainger sinking Peterlee Central Club 6-2. Ethan Armstrong and Anthony Cairns fired the consolations.

In the Premier Division, an effort from Scott Danks was not enough for Shotton Comrades, who lost 4-1 to leaders and title favourites Dawdon Welfare Park. Robbie Bird and Kyle Bell both netted twice for the Green Drive men.

Defences were on top when Easington CIU took on Seaham The George, as the game finished all square 0-0, while efforts from Stephen Turner and Martyn Blenkinsopp saw Murton Park View beat Thornley Harrys Bar 2-1, with substitute Dave Summerson replying.
