Northern League: South Shields eye promotion at Easington Colliery tonight

Easington Colliery expect a big crowd at Welfare Park tonight (7.30pm kick-off), with Ebac Northern League Division Two leaders South Shields needing a win to clinch promotion.

The Mariners, with ex-Sunderland star Julio Arca in their ranks, have attracted more than 20,000 fans to home games this term, and their away support has been impressive too.

Shields skipper Leepaul Scroggins expects a tough test, saying: “Easington are a typical Northern League Division Two team.

“They’re big, strong and physical, and we know what to expect.

“It will be a good Northern League game with plenty of tackles going in, and we’ll have to be at our best after they turned us over at Mariners Park earlier in the season.

“It will definitely be a difficult game for us.”
