Northern League: Sunderland RCA sunk by slick Shildon

Have your say

Sunderland RCA slumped to a third successive defeat in last night’s Ebac Northern League Division One trip to Shildon.

The Meadow Park men, knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend, fell behind early on as Billy Greulich-Smith found the net with a free header from a corner.

Shildon doubled their advantage a minute before the break, when Anthony Peacock produced a superb finish.

RCA went close late on when Nathan O’Neill headed against the bar.

But debutant Martyn Coleman made the game safe with a third for the Railwaymen, who are up to sixth place, with RCA ninth.

Billingham Synthonia are still seeking a first win, following a 2-2 draw at home to Newcastle Benfield.

Jordan Jewson fired Synners ahead on 23 minutes, in off the post, but Oliver Leedham levelled. Jewson smashed home a second for Synthonia, but, in the 83rd minute, skipper Mark Turnbull levelled things up.

Marske United rose to second place after a 3-0 victory at Stockton Town.

Danny Earl teed up Michael Roberts to bag a 10th-minute opener. Roberts raced down the right, cut inside and fired home for 2-0, then Glen Butterworth added a third.

Marske are just three points behind leaders Morpeth Town, with a game in hand.
