Easington Colliery came from behind to secure a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Whickham in Ebac Northern League Division Two last night.
Jack Pounder fired past keeper John Mordey to give Easington a 15th-minute lead, but Kyle Wharton headed a corner past Kyle Donaldson to level, two minutes later.
Pounder hit the post with a header, from James Talbot’s cross, then blazed a controversial penalty over the bar, when Talbot had been fouled in the act of scoring.
Lewis Green and Michael Cooke went close before Easington fell behind as Kallum Broadhead netted from close range on 58 minutes.
Sub Shaun Smith and Pounder threatened levellers, before Liam Adamson finally equalised from close range on 84 minutes.
Shane O’Brien then bagged the winner, heading home three minutes later, lifting Easuington to 11th place in the table ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Jarrow.
