Moors’ cup thrill

Have your say

Spennymoor Town did the STL Northern League proud when they defeated favourites Gateshead Reserves 3-0 in the Durham Challenge Cup final at Eppleton CW yesterday, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Jason Ainsley’s side made a dream start, scoring after just nine minutes. Anthony Peacock and Daniel Moore combined to set up Adam Johnston and his header from eight yards gave goalkeeper Tim Deasy no chance.

Just before the interval, Moors went two up. A quickly-taken Keith Graydon free-kick was picked up by Gavin Cogdon, who went past two defenders before delivering a clinical finish from 10 yards.

Shortly after the hour mark, it was all over for the Tynesiders. Peacock, Craig Ruddy and Stephen Capper inter-passed and Moore headed in from close-range.
