Consett deservedly won the Durham Challenge Cup last night, beating Dunston UTS 4-2 in the final at Eppleton CW.
Michael Mackay made the breakthrough in the 14th minute, and it was soon 2-0 as veteran frontman Mackay struck again.
After 27 minutes, the Steelmen increased their advantage, following Michael Sweet’s low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Dale Burrell got one back for Dunston five minutes later.
They held out hope of a recovery, but Sweet’s second goal of the night, on 66 minutes, made sure of victory to delight the Consett support in a crowd of 420.
Michael Hall grabbed a second Dunston consolation in the 74th minute to no avail.
