NEW signing Luuk de Jong and forgotten midfielder Sylvain Marveaux are pushing for starts when Newcastle take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
De Jong and Marveaux both came off the bench in last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat to Sunderland.
And with manager Alan Pardew having lost Cheick Tiote to injury, there will be at least one change against title-chasing Chelsea.
Marveaux has not started a Premier League game in more than five months, while loanee de Jong is lacking match practice having been on the fringes at Borussia Monchengladbach in the first half of the campaign.
But the pair have worked hard on the training field this week, and Pardew said: “Luuk’s a player that needs game time.
“He’ll get more game time at Chelsea, whether he starts or not. He needs it, and we need to have a good look at him.
“And Sylvain’s another player that might get an opportunity on Saturday to say ‘come on then, I should be in the team’.”
