Tough double first up for Newcastle United

NEWCASTLE United will welcome Tottenham to the Sports Direct Arena for their first game of the 2012/13 season.

It’s part of a tough start to the campaign for Alan Pardew’s men, with a trip to Champions League winners Chelsea coming the following week.

The Magpies will then lock horns with Aston Villa, when Paul Lambert brings his new side to Tyneside on September 1.

The first Tyne-Wear derby of the season is on October 20 at the Stadium of Light, with the return clash on April 13.

And Newcastle will bring down the curtain on their campaign with a home encounter with Arsenal on May 19 – the exact opposite to last season, when the clash with the Gunners was the first game up.

The other stand-out fixtures see Newcastle host Manchester United on October 6, with their trip to Old Trafford coming on Boxing Day, while they welcome Premier League champions Manchester City on December 15.

The fixtures, of course, are all subject to change once the TV companies decide which ones they want to screen live.
