STEVEN Fletcher warmed up for Sunday’s Wear-Tyne derby with a historic hat-trick for Scotland yesterday.
The Sunderland striker – without a goal for his country in six years – scored three times in a 6-1 rout of Gibraltar.
It was the first hat-trick by a Scotland player since 1969.
Fletcher quadrupled his international goals tally to become the first Scotland player to net a treble since Colin Stein hit four against Cyprus.
Shaun Maloney hit two penalties and Steven Naismith was also on target as the Scots recovered from Lee Casciaro’s equaliser.
