Chancel Mbemba is set to follow Alexsander Mitrovic to Newcastle United – and Steve McClaren’s hopeful of even more arrivals this summer.
Mbemba is close to completing a £7.5million move to St James’s Park.
At the moment we have two in, and I am sure we are looking for others. But, as I say they, have to be the right ones.
The Anderlecht defender – who says playing for Newcastle in the Premier League would be a dream come true – was a team-mate of £13million striker Mitrovic in Belgium.
Mitrovic joined early this week, but he won’t be available for Sunday’s friendly away to Sheffield United.
Head coach McClaren said: “We’re forever working.
“People are mentioning this and that. Believe you me, we have a lot of names that people have not got hold of yet.
“We have been close with them.
“At the moment we have two in, and I am sure we are looking for others. But, as I say they, have to be the right ones.”
The deal for DR Congo international Mbemba is likely to be finalised in the next 48 hours.
“The transfer is not finalised yet,” said Mbemba.
“There are still some details to work out, but it will go (through) and I’m proud of myself.
“I worked very hard for it to arrive, and it’s a childhood dream come true. In Congo, everyone dreams of one day playing in the Premier League. In my country, it is the place to be.”
Meanwhile, McClaren is looking forward to getting to work with Mitrovic, who did not travel to the USA for the last leg of the club’s three-game tour.
However, Mitrovic won’t feature at Bramall Lane.
Asked if he would be available, McClaren said: “I think it’s the visa we have to get through, and it might take three or four days.
“It will be good to get back on Friday, meet him and get him in with the family.”
