ALAN Pardew says he couldn’t believe his own eyes early in the season as Newcastle United struggled near the foot of the Premier League.
Pardew’s side are fifth in the table after a run of five successive Premier League wins.
Just over a month ago, the team was languishing in the relegation zone.
However, Newcastle manager Pardew – whose side take on West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday – felt the Magpies’ position wasn’t a reflection of what he had seen on the training field – and on a matchday.
“You think ‘OK, this could be something’,” said Pardew.
“Then you have a run of disappointments, which we had – although playing quite well – and you start questioning your own eyes and your own management experience.
“But we felt that there was something here, and suddenly we just hit the ground and got a win, and got another one, and just built on that.
“The spirit in the group is fantastic.”
