OLIVIER Kemen has APOLOGISED to his Newcastle United team-mate Freddie Woodman – after captaining France’s Under-19s to a victory over England.

Kemen’s side beat England 2-1 last night to book a place at the European Under-19 Championships at the expense of Woodman and his colleagues.

Goalkeeper Woodman – who had kept a clean sheet for his country at the weekend – was an unused substitute in Saint-Lo.

Goals from Sehrou Guirassy and Gnaly Cornet gave France a 2-0 lead.

Patrick Roberts netted late on for England, but Sean O’Driscoll’s side couldn’t get an equaliser.

After the game, Kemen posted a photograph of himself playing in the game on Twitter – and said “sorry” to Woodman, who replied: “Congratulations my friend ! See you back at the toon.”

Kemen – who made Newcastle’s senior bench for the first time against Arsenal earlier this month – is now preparing for Sunday’s Wear-Tyne derby along with Woodman.

The 18-year-old midfielder joined United from Metz two years ago.
