NEWCASTLE United have won the League Managers Association Performance of the Week award for their 2-1 victory over Chelsea last weekend.
Papiss Demba Cisse’s brace ensured Alan Pardew’s side became the first team to beat Chelsea this season.
The five-man panel, which included LMA chairman – and ex-Sunderland boss – Howard Wilkinson, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, opted to give the weekly award to Newcastle.
Speaking after Saturday’s win, Pardew said: “At the end it was like a Boy’s Own story.
“You can only do that if you have a fantastic training ground spirit and love. It’s about love and covering each other and they did that.
“It’s a fabulous day for us and it’s a famous victory and I’m overjoyed for the staff and the fans.”
