The midfielder was forced out of Roy Hodgson’s England squad by injury.

But Colback – who Hodgson said had received a “nasty kick on the back of the calf” – is expected to be available for Saturday’s game at the St Mary’s Stadium.

The 24-year-old’s call-up came after two impressive Premier League performances for United.

Colback, signed from Sunderland on a free transfer in the summer, isn’t under-pressure Newcastle manager Alan Pardew’s only injury concern.

His midfield colleague Cheik Tiote, yet to kick a ball from for the club this season because of a hamstring injury, will need to be assessed on his return from international duty late this week.

Last week Pardew lost forward Siem de Jong for up to four months.

Summer signing De Jong has a thigh a problem, which is still being assessed by the club.

HATEM Ben Arfa has made a goalscoring start to his Hull City career - and put himself the frame for an early debut.

Ben Arfa was controversially loaned to the club by Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew.

And the 27-year-old - who hasn’t played in the Premier League since April after being frozen out by Pardew - played in a behind-closed-doors game against West Bromwich Albion yesterday.

Hull manager Steve Bruce is looking to quickly get Ben Arfa up to speed ahead of Monday night’s home game against West Ham United.

Ben Arfa netted in a 2-2 draw against West Brom, and he could now make his competitive debut against Sam Allardyce’s side at the KC Stadium.

The forward’s exit late on deadline day angered many fans.

And summer signing Siem de Jong - handed Ben Arfa’s No10 shirt by Pardew - was ruled out for “a number of months” with a thigh injury just days later.
