FABRICIO Coloccini will be back for Newcastle at Blackburn tonight – but Papiss Demba Cisse and Demba Ba will not be involved.
Coloccini missed the weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Brighton because of a groin injury.
But the Magpies’ captain returned to training this week, and the defender will lead Alan Pardew’s players out against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League fixture.
“Colo will be fine – he’s trained for two days now,” Pardew said.
Pardew had hoped to have Cisse and Ba available after Senegal’s African Cup of Nations campaign ended on Sunday.
However, the logistics of getting the pair back for the game have proved unsurmountable, and Cisse, signed from Freiburg last month, will instead make his United debut in Sunday’s home game against Aston Villa.
“They won’t make it – it’s almost impossible,” conceded Pardew.
Meanwhile, Shola Ameobi says Newcastle’s players are hurting as much as the club’s fans after their FA Cup exit.
The striker’s confident he and his team-mates can get back to winning ways at Ewood Park.
He said: “We’ve got to be mentally positive, and go into the game trying to get a result.
“We’re bitterly disappointed, but we’ve got to get over it. We have to move on.”
The challenge for Pardew’s players is to put the cup exit behind them and build on what has been a hugely promising Premier League campaign so far.
H Midfielder Yohan Cabaye’s hoping to successfully contest an FA charge – and make Newcastle ’s starting XI tonight.
His case was today being heard by a regulatory commission. Cabaye was charged by the FA over an incident involving Adam El-Abd in Saturday’s 1-0 cup defeat to Brighton.
If successful, Cabaye will head to Blackburn to join his team-mates ahead of the Premier League fixture.
